This styled shoot is not your ordinary showcase of extraordinary details. Just like any regular styled shoot, it is meant to inspire, but this was one evening a real-life couple got to enjoy. A group of amazing wedding industry pros came together to give one engaged couple a stylish, personalized romantic evening, complete with outfits, transportation, dinner and live music. Hyeyoon Boo and Carlton Chan were the lucky winners of this stunning date night as the prize of a recent giveaway held by Lexi Haslam of Lexington & Co. Their entry was chosen out of close to 200 entries from couples who have had to postpone their wedding this year.
“The day the giveaway winners were being announced was an especially rough day for me,” Hyeyoon shares. “Every morning before work, I call my parents who live overseas, and on that particular morning, I found out that my mum had shaved her hair following side effects from her chemotherapy. It was something we discussed before but it still came off as a shock to me. Later that day when I found out that we won the Giveaway, it turned my whole day around and really helped me focus on the positives and uplift my spirit.”
When it came to the design, Haslam wanted to ensure the details reflected the couple’s modern style. The decor was inspired by summer beach days, long-running cornfields and cotton candy skies. On a sunny afternoon, the couple were picked up in a vintage Rolls Royce and taken to their first location—LoversLand, where they got dressed and had their hair and makeup done by Allyssa Helm Beauty & Co., while Haslam and her team set up the White Oak Flower Studio for a romantic dinner for two. “We set up the venue with a sea of candles, heavy florals, and Toben Foods dropped off their dinner, which the couple served themselves,” Haslam says. “The studio was infused with personal touches like custom vow booklets, place cards and gifts—a portrait of Hyeyoon and Carlton was even painted on a massive sugar cookie!”
The couple shared a sweet first look and snapped portraits in the Queen West neighbourhood, and then made their way to the studio. For Hyeyoon, walking into the studio and seeing the beautiful setup was the highlight of the evening. “It felt so surreal to be surrounded by all the flowers and decorations along with Jeremy’s amazing music in the background,” she shares. The rest of the evening included reading each other’s handwritten vows, cutting the cake and sharing a final dance. The couple were sent off with flowers and eats from the evening, as well as one surprise gift: an overnight stay in Prince Edward County.
“Hyeyoon and Carlton made this day so much better than we could have ever imagined,” Haslam says. “Their zest for life and love for each other was the ultimate reminder of why we continue to do what we love.”
Wanting to continue the fun with a great team of vendors, Haslam was inspired to put together “Small Weddings At The Symes,” a day of wedding ceremonies and one wedding and reception at The Symes venue in Toronto, on Saturday, September 26th, 2020.
