How To Create Insanely Amazing Balloon Installations

Balloon styling is one of the hottest trends in modern event design right now, but balloons still have a bit of a bad rep (thank you '80s). Erase those images of balloon arches at malls and school dances you may have etched into your memory. Event designers around the world are taking balloons to a whole new stylish level with wildly creative and bold installations. These cool and surprisingly budget-friendly creations are also extremely easy to make (hello DIY wedding project!). Here are three key tips on how to make your balloon installation look super chic.

Organic Shapes Play with the shape and dimension of the balloons. Avoid using only one balloon size or arranging them in a linear fashion. Try mixing 17”, 9” and 5” balloons together into clusters, then stringing those clusters together to create your base. You can build up the base by tying additional clusters in random areas for more dimension.

Colour Blocking You’ve heard of colour blocking in fashion, but balloon stylists are using this technique too. When choosing your balloons, pick multiple sizes of complementary colours. Rather than mix up all the colours, try separating them into individual sections. The final product looks clean, stylish and Instagram-perfect.

Unique Placement Balloons in unusual places are eye-catching and add elements of interest in otherwise boring areas, making them even more memorable. Get creative and aim for interaction. For example, try stringing an installation from the ceiling like clouds to create a super-cool activation your wedding guests can walk under.

Want to tackle your own installations? Great news: balloon stylists Blåsa Balloons now offer DIY balloon kits which are available online!
