Brides-to-be who have ventured into Lower Lonsdale in the past year have probably noticed an imposing new landmark looking out over the waterfront. It’s the shiny new $20-million home of The Presentation House Gallery, now called the Polygon Gallery, which was completed by Patkau Architects at the end of last year. Inside, the walls are currently lined with dreamy seascapes from Susan Hiller, and, as long as you’re a member (memberships start at $100 per year), the space can play host to the sophisticated wedding of your art-world fantasies.
The starkly white reception space, which can hold up to 200 people for a seated dinner, kind of feels like a giant crystal, with 13-foot ceilings, staggered saw-tooth skylights and an entire wall of floor-to-ceiling windows that offer up the ultimate IRL ceremony backdrop: the picturesque Vancouver harbour and sparkly city skyline. There’s an in-house catering kitchen and a bar management company called Lavish Liquid that will make sure your guests are sufficiently lubricated with champagne towers, local BC wines and craft beers. Tables and chairs are also available through the gallery—meaning you’re free to spend all your spare time coordinating over-the-top floral installations and custom-making photo booth accessories.
