In honour of Macaron Day, a day each year when bakeries across Canada donate proceeds from the sale of these sinful French treats to charity, we were inspired to investigate all of the ways these feather-light meringue cookies sandwiching a heavenly buttercream or ganache filling could be incorporated into your wedding day.
We recently had an office visit from the Toronto-based queen of macarons and owner of Nadège, Nadège Nourin, who not only brought us a sleeve of her famous treats but also gave us the scoop on fresh ideas for wedding macarons.
“For weddings, we have been doing a ton of macaron towers for couples who want something other than a cake on their sweet table,” Nadège shares. “For weddings most of the towers I create are two or three feet tall and can hold up to 350 macarons. A lot of couples opt to have two towers, one for the bride and one for the groom so they can incorporate different flavours and colours into their wedding sweet table.”
Between her two Toronto locations, Nadège estimates upwards of 7,000 macarons are sold each week with the most popular flavour being salted caramel. She loves to play with new flavours and also offers seasonal macarons in quirky flavours such as Guinness (for St. Patrick’s Day) and camembert (for Bastille Day). The sky is the limit when it comes to these delicate treats so consider creating a custom flavour combo especially for your celebration.
Nadège reports macaron wedding favours, which typically come packaged as a set of two in a teeny take-home box, are also quite popular with her customers. And don’t think you have to live in Toronto to get in on these wedding treats! In the next few months Nadège will be launching online shopping and shipping across Canada.
