Wedding Makeup Tips from Gucci Westman

When you have the chance to sit down and chat beauty and wedding makeup with one of the best makeup artists in the world, it’s a very good day. That was our Thursday a few weeks back when we met with Gucci Westman, global artistic director for Revlon. In case you don’t know Gucci, here’s a quick primer: She’s been a regular Vogue contributor since 1997, counts Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Aniston and Gwyneth Paltrow as clients and friends, creates runway looks for designers including Oscar De La Renta and Rag & Bone (she’s married to the label co-designer David Neville) and quite simply is one of the coolest and nicest people on the planet.

Gucci loved chatting weddings with us (“I love them I could talk about the subject all day!”) and gave us some great wedding makeup tips and tricks. Her number one piece of bridal beauty advice: “Have a good conversation with the person doing your wedding makeup and be sure to tell them what you want to look like you,” Gucci says. “On your wedding day, you should look like you at your very best and I believe in keeping wedding makeup natural, pretty and true to a woman's style”

Some products Gucci recommends for all brides includes waterproof mascara, a great light-weight foundation to even out skin tone and products that are formulated to look good in front of the camera. “Revlon’s PhotoReady collection really is amazing because it delivers long-wearing results and makeup looks incredible on film,” Gucci says. “One thing I always caution brides to really think about is their lip colour. I prefer the look of a soft and natural lip, but that’s not to say if you want a statement shade like red that it can’t look amazing—Drew Barrymore wore red on her wedding day and it was gorgeous. You just have to remember and be prepared for the fact that bold colour requires more maintenance throughout the day.”
