When it comes to fresh wedding hairstyles, the classic ponytail is one of the best. It’s a way to wear your hair up, but still have it look unfussy, girly and not over-styled. We recently had an audience with superstar hairstylist Sam McKnight, Global Style Ambassador for Pantene, who jetted to Toronto straight from backstage at the Chanel fall 2013 show in Paris. He shared that the ponytail is having a huge resurgence and was one of the most popular styles on the runways from New York to Milan and Paris.
“The pony we’re seeing is a little bit 1940s meets 1960s,” says McKnight, who has styled the famous locks of everyone from Kate and Naomi to Karlie and Cara. "At DSquared, the ponytails we created were sleek and side-parted with a nice swing. “At Moschino, we played with a little more volume at the crown which gave hair a nice lift.”
McKnight reveals that the secret to these gorgeous ‘dos though was actually not the styling, but the care of the hair. “Proper everyday care is what makes any style look amazing,” McKnight says. Just like you look after your skin, so too should you look after your hair. “Your hair ages just like your skin, and in order to keep it looking beautiful you need to properly cleanse and treat it.” McKnight advocates regularly moisturizing your hair with a masque once a week and boosting it with leave-in treatments and vitamin infused styling products like Pantene's Silky Moisture Whip.
