Chanel always leaves us breathless, but Karl Lagerfeld’s Midsummer Night’s Dream-inspired couture show this week in Paris took our swoon factor to new heights. A masterful collection, the lineup of dream dresses (which included a finale of wedding dresses) was showcased at the Grand Palais, a circular amphitheater, which was transformed into an ethereal enchanted forest. The decor even included a verdant forest of oak trees (there were reportedly 90 in total) and pines. Models sporting perfectly messy updos topped with elaborate head pieces and feathery lashes paraded down the runway in variations of the classic Chanel suit and incredible evening gowns that were lacey, ribbon-trimmed, airy and absolutely spectacular!
The show's finale is where we found incredible wedding dress inspiration. Billowy, feather-trimmed gowns in shades of pink and dusty green preceded Lagerfeld’s twin brides and ring bearer (the four-year-old is Lagerfeld's godson). The brides’ gowns were lacey confections featuring feather trim under the décolletage (it is thought this detail helped to emphasize the shoulders of the wedding gowns which was one of the most important areas of the body highlighted throughout this entire collection). The fact that the show closed with two brides instead of one is thought by many to be a statement by Lagerfeld in favour of same-sex marriage in France.
