Although many brides opt for a natural beauty look on their wedding day, we can't help but feel there's room to go beyond your comfort zone and wow your guests with bold wedding makeup that goes beyond your everyday go-to look.
Shoppers Drug Mart recently launched their annual "Be Bold With Beauty" campaign to inspire and empower women to take risks with their makeup. Customers are invited to have a consultation with Shoppers Drug Mart Beauty Experts to create a new bold beauty look they can wear. Six makeup looks were developed by beautyBOUTIQUE by Shoppers Drug Mart spokesperson, Simone Otis, who's also an on-set regular with Weddingbells.
"I love seeing people be so open to experiment with looks," Otis tells us. Out of the looks she created, which one is her favourite? "It's hard to choose!" she says. "I loved coming up with them all. So I'll just say that for the moment I'm loving the metallic lip and the monochromatic look in cranberry red."
To pull off a bold beauty look for your wedding day, Otis has a few key tips:
"Wedding day makeup is usually traditional and soft for a reason," Otis shares. "You want your wedding-day look to be beautiful no matter what the trend is." But that doesn't mean you can't have a little fun and add drama or colour to your look, Otis adds. "If you want to look chic and sexy, a soft yet smouldering smoky eye look is perfect," she explains. "If you want to add a bold colour try wearing a classic red or pink lip and keep the rest of your makeup soft and simple."
Want to switch it up for your wedding but not sure where to start? Step out of your comfort zone by amping up your natural colours and features. "If you don't normally wear lip colour, take your natural lip tone a bit deeper or brighter," Otis suggests. Her favourite look for brides who don't wear much makeup on a day-to-day basis? A thin line of eyeliner on the upper lash line, rose-gold eyeshadow on the eyelids, a couple of coats of black mascara and individual eyelashes. "The entire effect will look be natural yet amplified, and great for photos too," she explains.
If you don't want a full-on bold look, stick to going bold with just one or two of your features. "I would choose either a smoky eye or a red lip," the makeup artist shares. "They are elegant looks that never go out of style." Otis suggests adding some shimmer to a smoky eye to make it more romantic, and make sure you choose a red lip shade that complements the undertones of your skin.
