Canadian label NARCES Fall & Winter 2018 collection was unveiled this week as part of Toronto Fashion Week and designer and creative director Nikki Yassemi Wirthensohn presented a lineup that is electic, electric and for the most fashion-forward of brides.
Taking inspiration from the late 70s and early 80s, the latest collection from NARCES features a fusion of disco glam and maximalist details. Boldly opening the show with a black fishnet bodysuit complete with tulle-trimmed shoulders (how very era of excess!), the designs that followed were heavy on feathers, tiers of swooshy ruffles, intricate beading, sexy sheer panels and insets. Hemlines varied from super-short to floor-sweeping and for a bride looking for something seriously impactful for her wedding day there were some amazing statement gowns and jumpsuits in black, red and electric blue. One of our runway favourites was a high-collared gown featuring a very retro houndstooth pattern. Wirthersohn closed the show with a stunning glacial blue ballgown complete with plunging V-neckline and oversized floral corsage detail. The silhouette was very reminiscent of Princess Diana’s famous wedding gown from 1981—the designer says this spring's royal wedding was a major source of inspo for her this season.
