Voluminous ruffles and lace were top of mind at the Marchesa Fall 2013 runway show. With an emphasis on texture and adornments, designers Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig presented a dramatic collection which was quite a departure from their ethereal, Grecian-inspired Spring 2013 offering. Cascades of flowing silk chiffon and bursts of tulle adorned ballgowns and fit-and-flare dresses in the Marchesa Fall 2013 collection. Creative floral embellishments were also prevalent -- the designers say they drew inspiration from both the Bulgarian rose and the heart of the iris when creating gowns for the Marchesa Fall 2013 runway show. Aside from one flashy, strapless, above-the-knee, ruffled cocktail gown, there was a return to sophisticated modesty within the Marchesa Fall 2013 collection -- a number of gowns featured Chantilly lace sleeves (in varying lengths) and high necklines. To top off each look Chapman and Craig seem to have drawn inspiration from Anne Hathaway's wedding ensemble. The designers sent many of their models down the runway wearing gorgeous lace headpieces akin to the one Hathaway sported at her recent wedding to Adam Shulman. As a whole the Marchesa Fall 2013 collection was right on trend with what we've seen on other Fall 2013 runways, where lace, sleeves and sophisticated glamour are the looks of the moment.
