The spring 2019 collection from Lela Rose is focused on “bringing Southern charm to the modern age.” To do this, the Texan-born, New York City-based designer incorporated vintage-inspired details in to her signature silhouettes. A playful dot-chain embroidered lace drips into tiered flapper-esque fringes on a midi dress. A long strapless double-breasted buttoned bustier (with pockets!) and tailored trousers are done in a textural rose embossed fabric, as is a contoured mermaid gown with a squared off balconette bodice and Watteau train. For a softer look, a slim A-line dress gets a gathered blouson bodice that fades in cut-out floral embroidery towards its sheer bateau neckline.
The finishing touch for Rose’s Southern belle? Softly tied ribbon hair bows — an add-on for many designers this season — that wrapped around the model’s necks to double as wide chokers.
