Inspired by the nostalgia and romance of old Hollywood icons, one can think of Legends by Romona Keveza as the more traditional, timeless sister to Keveza’s contemporary signature collection. This season’s collection names such diverse women as Queen Victoria, Consuelo Vanderbilt, and Grace Kelly as muses, taking us through a century of iconic looks.
The collection opens with a tulle ball gown reminiscent of the aforementioned Queen, who popularized the concept of a white wedding gown (she was the royal to wear the colour for her own wedding in 1840). This regal gown features a draped off-the-shoulder bodice accented with tiny crystals and a crystal beaded belt. Ivory silk shantung exudes glamour, whether as a full ballgown with an origami pleated waterfall train (inspired by 1950s Grace Kelly) or a curvaceous one-shoulder mermaid gown accented with a bowed Watteau train (an ode to 1960s Gina Lollobrigida). An on-trend detachable gathered net overskirt with open front adds drama worn over a vineyard lace gown with a fluted silhouette, Keveza’s take on Rita Hayworth’s 1940 style.
For the finale, an organza ballgown with a full skirt, rippling hem, and smooth boned bodice with folded over neckline is a nod to Keveza’s vision for Pippa Middleton — a contemporary look that’s every bit as timeless as the rest of the collection.
