I love it when someone spills a secret of the stars with me, particularly if it’s a beauty-related one.
Last Thursday, I met with Joanna Schlip, celebrity makeup artist and spokesperson for Physician’s Formula, who was in town to showcase the company’s newest products to editors. Joanna arrived in town the previous night, riding high from the Golden Globes for which she “dressed” the faces of Globe winner Laura Linney and nominee Christina Applegate. It was while chatting about Christina’s gorgeous red lips that Joanna let one of her fail-safe beauty tips slip. To keep a bright lip colour like Christina’s from smudging or kissing off during the night, Joanna uses Jell-O powder to stain naked lips! “I dip a wet Q-tip into the Jell-O power, apply it to bare lips, and let it sit for at least 10 minutes to create a colour stain on lips,” Joanna dished. “Use red Jell-O under red and pink shades; orange Jell-O for coral or tangerine shades.” Apply your lipstick or gloss over the stain and voila, you’ve got sexy, smooch-proof colour. If a bold lip is in your bridal beauty agenda, use Joanna’s red-carpet tip to keep your lippy locked in.
