A dizzying view of New York’s skyscrapers through the windows of Jazz at Lincoln Center provided the soaring backdrop for Ines Di Santo’s Fall 2018 collection debut. The venue was selected with good reason, as the iconic city served as inspiration for the Toronto-based designer this season. Metropolitan brides in search of all out luxury need look no further. This is Manhattan at its most romanticized ideal: Loud, unapologetic, and aspirational—nostalgic, but always moving forward.
A quote from Di Santo in the collection’s press release describes her goal as creating gowns that are as varied as the city and the authentic women that inspired them. Apt, as the designer’s success lies in her ability to create cohesive collections with immense variety and diversity of style while maintaining a signature that’s distinctly her own. The words “opulent glamour” can as easily be used to describe a voluminous all lace ball gown with heaps of crinoline, as a deep-V halter satin jumpsuit paired with a cape showered with crystals. Details are lavish and unrestrained. Ropes of pearls are multiplied and turned into boleros and capes. Lace, beading, tulle, satin, and organza play together in harmony. A soft palette of ivory, pale Tiffany blue, blush pink, and peachy champagne stand strong against the grey of the city streets that serve as the collection’s backdrop.
