How To Create A Custom Lipstick Shade For Your Wedding Day

Bite Beauty has been offering the amazing service of creating your own bespoke lipstick shade via the Bite Lip Lab for a few years now and they have re=opned locations with strict new protocols in place to ensure the experience is safe for everyone. What is also new in the era of COVID-19 is they have taken the custom lip colour formulating service virtual and it is truly a treat to experience.

The virtual service is available to customers from across North America. All you need to do is make an appointment and you will be sent a confirmation with a link to meet your Bite Lip Lab mixologist online. Appointments generally run an hour which allows you plenty of time to play and perfect your custom lippy shade.

For my appointment with Hedyeh in the Toronto Lip Lab we first discussed my dream shade (a perfect earthen rose à la Adele), then Hedyeh gathered together a collection of eight to 10 pigments to play with to create it. She filled her artist’s palette with four shades and artfully blended together in an experience which felt very much like custom ice cream mix-up at Marble Slab Creamery! After round one we both felt the shade needed to be a bit duskier so Hedyeh mixed up again adding less pinky-rose pigments and a just a slice of a warm brown hue called Cashew. Winner!!

Hedyeh then swatched my shade on paper and the inside of her forearm to make sure it was the one. I chose a satin finish, mint flavouring and named my custom colour “Kitty.” This is where my time with Hedyeh stopped. We ended our virtual sesh and she headed into the lab to finish lipstick creation, mixing up fresh pigments, pouring into a lipstick bullet mold and putting in a custom tube engraved with my shade name. Two days later my lipstick arrived at my door (with a Bite Lip Care Kit) and it was p-e-r-f-e-c-t!

Some cool things to note about the Bite Lip Lab virtual experience. If your colour is not exactly as you expected, let them know and you can reformulate. The cost for the service is $75 and your custom shade is kept on file and you can re-order it at any time.
