Getting Married in 2012? 7 Hot Trends You May Be Wearing.

We’re on our way to Aulani, Disney’s new resort in Ko Olina, O'ahu, Hawaii next week to shoot a gorgeous fashion story for our Spring & Summer 2012 issue. We’re taking all of the hottest dresses for the season, and there are quite a few fresh and fabulous trends on the radar for 2012. Packed in our case, we have some dresses from MRS. Bridal Boutique, is a chic new bridal store that’s opened in Toronto’s swishy Yorkville area, carrying some of the hottest names in bridal—Caroline Devillo, Delphine Manivet, Elizabeth Fillmore, Francesca Miranda to name a few. In our mad packing frenzy, we stopped to ask MRS.’ Michelle Gunn her take on top trends for 2012—here’s her seven picks.

1. Sleeves. “Rather than sticking with strapless, brides have become more interested in trying a gown with a cap sleeve as well as three quarter length sleeve. We might want to thank Kate & Pippa Middleton for this up and coming trend.”

2. Traditional cuts with unique fabrics and patterns. “While brides still love the mermaid and trumpet silhouette, they are looking for something that will make these ever popular cuts more unique. We have seen amazing fabrics such as dotted tulle, organic lace with sequins and details like swirl laser cuts in the 2012 gowns.”

3. Individualism. “Brides are choosing fabrics and silhouettes that reflect their personality and taste rather than trying to please mom and dad. Even if they must compromise on the gown, they are adding their own touch. Be it hot pink shoes, glam bouquet or a fab fascinator—this day is all about them and they know it!”

4. Stunning backs. “The back of a gown has become almost as important as the front—it is what everyone sees during the ceremony anyway, right? Designers are paying much more attention to the backside of the gown. From low backs to stunning details that would typically be left for the front of the gown, brides bringing sexy back.”

5. Belts and Sashes. “They can change the entire look of any dress. We are seeing brides picking out different coloured belts/sashes to add a little glam to the white or ivory number they have chosen to walk down the aisle in. We have also seen brides purchase statement pieces—from necklaces to bracelets- accessories have the ability to turn a very simple dress into a fun glamorous one.”

6. Sleek and sexy rather than ‘bridal’. “Silk satin has become a very popular fabric as it accentuates the shape of the brides’ body. The gowns are cleverly designed so that they ‘hug’ in all the right places with ruching and/or draping material, hiding those areas which some might feel a tad insecure about.”

7. Vintage vibes. Be it vintage beaded medallions, antique French lace or a 70’s bohemian inspired lace gown, vintage inspired dresses are making huge comeback. Trés chic.”
