Evidence of drugs, hormones and personal-care products has been found in bodies of water from streams to lakes, posing a risk to organisms. Take preventive measures by properly disposing of these substances. If it’s a liquid, don’t pour it down the drain or flush it down the toilet. Many municipal sewage treatment plants are not engineered for pharmaceutical removal. Add an absorbent material, such as kitty litter or flour, to liquids to stop them from seeping into the earth and use the trash instead.
