The British, hats and weddings are synonymous with each another. I love seeing all the fabulous toppers on display at English weddings, and of course on Royal Wedding day you are going to see some amazing ones. Fascinators are one of Kate Middelton’s favourite accessories and she’s been snapped wearing one’s decked with everything from feathers to ruffles to a host of formal occasions. Thought she probably won’t be wearing one for her wedding day (a veil and tiara is practiaclly a guarantee), I thought it would be fun to imagine some fantastic ones for spring inspired by Kate and her love of fabulous fascinators. I asked Toronto milliner Blair Nadeau to sketch some beautiful pieces for me, and the results are GORGEOUS. Here’s what she created:
Lady Violet: Made with iridescent purple silk dupioni ribbons that swirl and twirl around a hand-sculpted poppy. This whimsical fascinator is adorned with crystals and finished with two hand trimmed arrowhead feathers and sits upon a silk cocktail hat.
Lady Peony: A beautiful Burgundy red organza peony tops this elegant fascinator. Framed with beautiful hand sculpted sinamay leaves in hunter green and accented with an curled ostrich spine. This fascination is playfully accented with flighty feathers and twirled ribbons.
Lady Lily: A Lily for all seasons, sitting upon a handmade sinamay cocktail hat, ivory sinimay ribbons wrap around a beautiful hand sculpted calla lily that is decorated with accent feathers in beautiful spring green.
How amazing are these?! Blair makes extraordinary things and if you are looking to wear something on you wedding day that packs a major wow factor, you should definitely get in touch with her.
