Rita Vinieris’s spring 2019 collections are all about confidence, elegance, beauty, and vitality. Paying tribute to the #MeToo movement, the designer is focused on delivering “what today’s modern and empowered woman wants in a wedding dress.” For her Alyne collection, that means meticulously fit gowns in luxurious fabrics, with A-line skirts of varying widths and delicate, understated details.
At its core, the collection is a study in contrasts. Illusion necklines, skinny spaghetti straps, and plunging Vs keep the looks open and airy on top, balancing grand, sweeping skirts below. Modern, architectural gowns in matte crepe get a traditional touch from a long column of covered buttons extending all the way down their backs. The unmistakable femininity of an intricate lace dress is offset with a certain toughness, achieved with accents like crystal beaded harnesses and chokers, sporty tank bodices, and chain braid wraps. Vinieris has also invented a new colour for the season, dubbed “gilver,” which, depending on your perspective, is either a warm silver or a cool gold, seen in floral lace flecked with shimmering metallic thread.
