We have all been ramping up our selfcare and skincare regimes at home of late and in advance of your wedding day, you may want to consider taking things up a few more notches by signing on for some state-of-the-art skin and body therapies.
We spoke to dermatologist Dr. Brandon Howell and nurse practitioner Daniella Iacobelli from the Guelph Skin Clinic to find out their reccos for treatments and creating a wedding beauty ‘to do’ list. Here’s five suggestions to consider.
1. A Pro-Grade Skincare Consultation
Achieving healthy skin includes a superior skin care routine. Howell and Iacobelli recommend skincare products with pharmaceutical-grade active ingredients which have been clinically demonstrated to show skin improvement. It is recommended you meet with a dermatology pro who will pick the perfect products for you—as everyone’s skin is different with different sensitives it’s always best to have a professional guide you through this process. You should start with your wedding skincare regime at least six months in advance of your wedding date.
2. Microneedling
This is a minimally invasive treatment using radiofrequency (RF) energy combined with microneedling to resurface, restore, and renew the skin to a more radiant and youthful appearance. RF microneedling treats active acne and acne scarring, fine lines and deep wrinkles, and skin laxity. It will also improve the overall skin tone and texture, including reducing pore size. We recommend starting with this treatment regime as far as one year in advance of your wedding, the results are incredible!
3. Chemical Skin Peels
Chemical skin peels effectively exfoliate the skin to improve fine lines, wrinkles, acne, blemishes, pigmentation, skin texture and tone.
Peels are also a great way to kickstart the rejuvenation experience of your customized skincare plan. Expect a brighter complexion and radiant, glowing skin. Start with peels three to six months before your wedding.
4. Injectables
There are two types to consider here: neuromodulators (Botox and Dysport) and dermal fillers. Neuromodulators are protein variations of botulinum toxin injected beneath the skin to temporarily relax the muscles that cause wrinkles. As a result, you will have a softening of facial expressions and lines; neurotoxins can treat established wrinkles and prevent wrinkles from ever forming. Neuromodulator injections will usually start to show an effect after 48 hours with the maximum benefit appearing after about two weeks. Dermal fillers contain hyaluronic acid and are used to reduce lines and wrinkles by restoring volume, shape and contour to your face/lips. Fillers also help to restore a youthful glow to your skin by recruiting water and re-establishing natural moisturization mechanisms to support healthy, radiant skin. These type of injectables show an immediate cosmetic improvement on the date of the procedure, and maximum benefit will be evident after two weeks. If you are thinking of injectables, we recommend booking these one or two months before your wedding date.
5. Facial & Body Contouring.
These are truly the secret celebrity red carpet go-to treatments for skin tightening! Radiofrequency (RF) energy contracts the deeper layers of your skin to stimulate the formation of new collagen and improve skin elasticity. This process leads to tightening of your skin for a more youthful appearance. Dr. Howell shares at his clinic they practice Evoke Facial and Evolve Body Contouring, and they are relaxing, completely painless treatments. They can be done on the face and anywhere on the body to reduce cellulite, fat and tone muscle. It’s recommended to start these six months in before your day and you will notice continual improvements after your treatments are done.
