A Romantic Woodsy Wedding In Muskoka

Elynn and Joe picked a “romance in the woods” theme for their wedding. "We took a lot of inspiration from the natural greenery of the Muskoka region," Elynn says. Family also played a key role throughout many elements of the couple's celebration weekend. "Both my mom and Joe’s mom were involved in the planning process—my mom has an incredible eye for design and worked closely with Tanya List and Shealyn Angus to transform the Sherwood Inn," Elynn explains. "Joe’s mom organized a beautiful Muskoka-themed rehearsal lunch decorated with hand-painted canoe paddles and photos of Joe and I growing up on Lake Joseph, which was also our wedding location."

The couple planned out an entire weekend of fun events for their guests, many of whom came to Muskoka on the day before the wedding. "We were fortuitous with the weather, and having everyone we love spend the weekend with us was the absolute best," Elynn remarks. "Friday afternoon turned into a big beach party followed by a barbecue. Luckily we had good friends who sent us home at an appropriate time!"

The couple's decor included tall centrepieces of greenery, as well as candles in a variety of sizes. "The photos speak for themselves—Tanya’s flowers were perfect," Elynn shares. "We incorporated subtle hues of mauve and other natural colours to accent the greenery."

The reception included fun, interactive games that included all the guests. Later that evening, the couple shared their first dance to "That’s How Strong My Love Is" by Otis Redding. "We both love Otis Redding so much we named our dog after him!" Elynn says. "The song was an easy choice—not over-the-top or theatrical, just a really romantic love song."
