On Chelsey and Lukasz’s wedding day, their first look on the rooftop terrace of hotel Le Germain in downtown Calgary was incredibly special— it was the exact same spot where the couple got engaged. “One year later, on that very same terrace, we saw each other for the first time before becoming husband and wife,” Chelsey explains. “It was very special to have our first look in the same spot where Lukasz proposed—it all came full circle in that moment and the emotions came rushing back. Our plan is to go back every year on our anniversary.”
A modern romantic wedding theme allowed the couple to play with decor that complemented their venue. “We chose a simple ivory and blush colour palette with greenery and rose gold accents,” Chelsey says. “There’s just nothing quite like pairing brick walls and wooden beams with lofty, natural floral arrangements. The combination of exposed brick, wooden beams, greenery and flowers really looked spectacular at our reception. The natural beauty of the floral decor completely transformed the industrial space and brought a romantic softness to the entire room.”
The bride and groom also wanted to ensure that their roots were incorporated into their special day. “Lukasz was born in Poland and my family is from Newfoundland—so we had everything from vodka shots to a screeching-in ceremony,” Chelsey recalls. “We also used my grandparents’ wedding cake topper and displayed each of our parents’ and grandparents’ wedding photos.”
The couple chose an acoustic rendition of “Love Me Tender” for their wedding song. “We wanted a song that was simple, timeless and meaningful. Our song selection was deliberately slow so that we could take our time and enjoy the moment of dancing together for the first time as husband and wife,” Lukasz shares. “We didn’t want to feel rushed or over-think the movement—we just wanted to remember every step.”
