An Eclectic Wedding In Toronto

High school computer class set the scene for Julia and Tom’s 15-year romance. The couple started dating in the twelfth grade and have been together ever since, making Julia think that a wedding wasn’t in the cards after so long together. This made his Barcelona proposal all the more surprising and romantic. “We took a gondola ride and he classically got down on one knee and proposed with a beautiful vintage emerald art deco ring,” Julia recalls. “It was a really extraordinary moment, something I’ll never forget.”

The wedding was built around the couple’s eclectic taste, with Julia’s unique and non-traditional gown the star of their fun and carefree wedding theme. When it came to deciding on balloons or flowers, Julia knew what she had to do. “I did what any self-respecting maximalist does and chose both!” she says with a laugh.

An important detail was the couple’s special wedding scent of blackberry, bay, English pear and freesia. “As a fashion and beauty editor, fragrance is something extremely important to me,” Julia explains, “It’s a major trigger for memory, so naturally, I wanted to create a scent for our wedding day.”

The couple arrived to the venue in vintage “his and hers” Porsches. “Our good friends, Maik and Pamela, are ‘Porsche people,'” Julia says, “So we called and asked if we could take some photos with their vintage rides.” The cars were one of Julia’s favourite wedding details and the couple took photos with them and their bridal party ahead of the ceremony.

“I didn’t think I would feel so nervous to see him but the butterfly factor was real, it was a really special moment for the both of us,” Julia says of the couple’s first look. “It was the only minute of the day we had time to take a breath and reflect on the day ahead and why we were doing this.”
