44513 About the couple Bride: Pernilla Stenroos Groom: Mark McElhinney How they met: "We met while Pernilla was in Calgary visiting her sister and doing an internship at the University of Calgary in 2006," explains Mark. "I was out celebrating an Edmonton Oilers playoff win with my brother and friends, while Pernilla and her sister were out exploring the local nightlife. After meeting in line at a pub, we were virtually inseparable for the rest of the summer." Engagement story: “After living together for two years in Finland, and another year in Calgary, Mark started planning the engagement," Pernilla recalls. "With the help of his soon-to-be sister in-law, and my taste well known, the rings were designed and ready. Weather did not cooperate with the plan for a camping trip to Waterton, so an impromptu weekend getaway to Banff was suggested. I was a little suspect of Mark's eagerness, and had a pretty good idea what was in store. After a relaxing day, a hike and a small picnic on the sunny slopes of Mt. Norquay, the rings came out, the question was asked, and the answer was yes!" "We woke up early, went together to get Pernilla's hair and makeup done, drove to Emerald Lake, got dressed together, shared a bottle of champagne, and walked into the wedding ceremony hand in hand. The best moment was the entire day." Favourite detail: "The 'special items' at our wedding were our wedding bands," says Pernilla. "They were custom made by my sister Ellinor who is a self-employed goldsmith and high-end jewellery designer." Wedding song: "Always You" by Sophie Zelmani. "She is one of our favourite Swedish music artists, and the song captures how we feel about each other," says Pernilla.
