About the couple

Bride: Liana Phoenix

Groom: Gavin Johnston

How they met: “Gavin’s roommate, and my close girlfriend were seeing each other for a short time,” explains Liana. “She was out on a date with Gavin’s roommate and asked me to come over to drink some wine and hang out with them and Gavin. After a little persuasion and being completely uninterested in meeting anyone at the time, I headed over. As it turns out, I ended up having a really fun evening, laughing my butt off all night! I must have knocked his socks off because he asked me if he could make me dinner the very next day.”

Engagement story: “I was struggling a little bit at work, so Gavin asked me if he could take me out to dinner to take my mind off of things,” Liana recalls. “We went to the restaurant and had a wonderful dinner, two bottles of wine and I was having a great time. As we were finishing up, a blues band started playing on the lounge side of the restaurant, so we went over and had a dance. After a couple of songs, he asked if I wanted to go for a walk around the city. It was the first warm, clear night in a while so I was game and still clueless. We got up to the pathway that overlooks the city and I was blabbing away about who knows what when Gavin interrupted me. He told me to hold on and slow down a minute. So we took a seat on a bench and he began to tell me how amazing I am. He got down on one knee, and the rest is history! I was completely shocked, laughing, crying and in absolute disbelief. It was probably one of the most amazingly natural, most fun nights of my life.”
