A Romantic Woodland Wedding In Niverville, Manitoba

Zach and Mercedes’ engagement was only partially surprising for the bride-to-be. “I had a hunch that something was up when Zach asked me to go out on a fancy date because according to him, we hadn’t gone on a nice date in a while. We had a lunch reservation and planned to go to the zoo afterwards, before going out for ice cream at the aptly named Bridge Drive-In,” Mercedes recalls. “Ice cream in hand, we walked across the bridge. By now my suspicions had faded and I was certain we were just on a regular date. Zach pointed out something in the river and when I turned around, he had dropped to one knee and was holding a ring box. Somehow everyone else around had disappeared, so we were the only two on the bridge when I said ‘YES!'”

The pair chose to design their wedding around an elegant woodland theme. “The forest has always held a romantic allure for me, so I wanted to incorporate as many woodsy details as possible while keeping the decor simple and elegant,” Mercedes explains. “To keep the colour scheme airy and bright we chose green, white, light grey and a mix of berry tones.”

One special way the bridal party contributed to the big day was through the decor. “The centrepieces are one of my favourite details because my bridesmaids and I made them together,” Mercedes shares. “We all got together the night before the wedding and spent the evening drinking wine surrounded by flowers and greenery. The centrepieces were a special touch from each of them and I was so proud of their work!”

The couple’s first dance was one very memorable moment during the day. “We chose to dance to ‘Say You Will’ by Hearts & Colors, which is a song that we both love and know all the words to,” Mercedes says. “One of my favourite memories is dancing, foreheads touching, eyes closed, singing to each other and promising forever.”
