From the designer: Inspired by Chinoiserie decorative arts, this cake was designed to mimic the exuberant decoration that focuses on leisure and pleasure as often seen in the 18th century. The intricately patterned cake was hand-painted with shades of blue food colouring. I gave the cake dimension and interesting shape through using a hexagonal tier and sculpted finial for the top that pays homage to ancient Chinese vases. On the inside, a lovely almond scented cake was paired with blue violet ganache and black currant buttercream.
