A Lovely Pink And White Wedding At Casa Loma In Toronto

Real Weddings

Jacky proposed to Natalie at Nathan Philip Square, the same spot where he had asked her to be his girlfriend five years earlier. The proposal took an entire year to plan. Jacky attended woodworking classes to learn how to make a shadow box for Natalie, which he filled with 60 photos, one for every month they’d been dating. Jacky also wrote Natalie a letter every month for a year leading up to the proposal. When compiled, these letters revealed a secret message. “The first letter of the first word in each card spelled out ‘will you marry’,” Natalie says. “That night, he gave me the 13th and last card, which was the missing piece to completing the hidden question. This card started with the word ‘me’.” Of course, Natalie said yes.

Natalie and Jacky’s wedding was the perfect mix of romantic and traditional. Pink and white flowers filled the room as the couple exchanged their vows underneath the grand stained glass ceiling in Casa Loma. A Chinese tea ceremony was incorporated into the cocktail hour, and on the morning of the wedding, the groom and his groomsmen played traditional Chinese door games.

Food was an integral part of the newlywed’s wedding reception. “We had everything from smoked salmon rosette, beef strip loin au jus, to cheesecake and creme brûlée,” the couple describes. “We even had a slider station set up for late at night.” This wide selection of food was the best way to incorporate Natalie’s other love: going on food adventures and running a foodie Instagram page.

Natalie and Jacky shared two wedding dances together. The first song they chose was “A Thousand Years” by Christina Perri, and the second was “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran. Jacky also performed a dance that he had choreographed with his groomsmen. “We practiced every week for almost three months. We even practiced the morning of the wedding just before we got changed,” he recalls. “Immediately after the bouquet toss, the MC called us to the dance floor and it was show time. We had fun with it and the months of practice paid off.”

The bride and groom loved how their special day unfolded. When asked if they would do anything differently, only a few things came to mind. “I wish that we had had more time to take pictures with everyone,” the bride says. “Or that we had planned our ceremony and reception on separate days!”

A Gorgeous Spring Garden Wedding In Vancouver

Real Weddings

Lulu and Thomas started out as childhood friends, and then dated for eight years before finally tying the knot. However, Thomas’ first attempt at popping the big question didn’t go as planned. “She had no idea what was happening and kept interrupting me while I was trying to propose,” Thomas laughs. The second time around, he took a different approach. “I slipped the ring on Lulu’s hand while she was sleeping. It was simple but it worked!”

For their big day, the bride and groom held their ceremony in the rose garden at Stanley Park. They exchanged vows while surrounded by an array of pink and white flowers. “Rose pink is my favourite colour, so I wanted it incorporated throughout my wedding,” Lulu says. “The flowers were just what I imagined. It was like a fairy-tale.”

Lulu and Thomas’ wedding had a romantic feel, with hints of gold adding a modern touch. Traditional elements were incorporated as well. “I had two wedding dresses,” Lulu says. “ One was white and the other was a traditional red. Both were so classic and feminine. I felt amazing in them.”

The couple will always cherish the special moments they shared with their families on their wedding day, such as the first look with Lulu and her parents, and Thomas’ father walking Lulu down the aisle. “These moments are not just for us as a couple, but for us to share as a family,” the bride and groom explain. “Our parents have sacrificed so much for these exact moments to happen, for us to leave the nest and start our new life together.”

The newlyweds shared their first dance to the song “Canon” by Canadian Brass, an old favourite of the groom from when he was in his high school band. Lulu and Thomas had a first dance with their parents as well. “The feeling we had during these dances is hard to put down in words,” the couple describes. “It was a really magical feeling.”

A Modern Lakeside Wedding In Burnaby

Real Weddings

Troy and Amanda met on Tinder. “We call each other the ‘Tinder Winners,'” Amanda recalls with a laugh. After dating for sometime, the couple got engaged during a weekend trip to Nashville, Tennessee. Amanda almost missed the trip to stay home and take care of their new puppy. “Troy immediately panicked, as little did I know he was planning to propose on this weekend getaway,” Amanda recalls. After some persuading, Amanda left for Tennessee with Troy, and on the last day of the trip, he popped the question. “He took me to the Belle Meade Botanical Gardens and asked me for my hand in a beautiful gazebo overlooking the gardens,” Amanda smiles. “It was perfect, he caught me completely off guard!”

The wedding celebration took place in a lakeside forest with a Tudor-style mansion nearby. It was everything the couple was looking for and tied in perfectly with their wedding vision of elegance and simplicity.

Amanda and Troy put a lot of thought into every detail of their day. Troy drank only Avalon milk for a year leading up to the wedding so they could use the glass bottles as centrepieces.

The couple’s favourite part of the day was their first look, where they felt all the stress and nerves melt away. “We were both so overwhelmed by the excitement of the day. Once we were able to finally see each other all the stress and feelings of being overwhelmed settled,” Amanda and Troy recall. Another favourite moment was when they stood together at the altar, looking out at their friends and family. “We never realized how many amazing, wonderful people loved us.”

For their first dance, they chose “Hungry Eyes” by Eric Carmen in honour of Troy’s mother who passed away in 2016. “She used to play the song during family road trips and whenever Troy hears it, he’s reminded of her,” Amanda explains. “We wanted to incorporate her as much as we could so he felt she was with him.”

An Understated, Elegant Wedding In Ajax, Ontario

Real Weddings

Lindsay used to always joke with Jay that he had to buy her an engagement ring before he bought himself a boat. She thought he had broken this rule when she came home one day to find a boat in their driveway. But Jay had borrowed it from a friend to trick Lindsay. “He proceeded to tell me about how the boat was such a great deal and they even threw in a life jacket for our daughter,” Lindsay laughs. “After some convincing, he finally got me on the boat to check it out. He opened up the front storage area to show me the life jacket that was an apparent selling feature, and instead I found a rose, my engagement ring, and a note asking ‘Will you marry me?'”

For their special day, the couple opted for simple decor as to not overshadow the natural beauty of their venue. “Neither of us are very flashy people, so we wanted to keep our day the same,” the couple explains. “Our venue already had such gorgeous details, such as the huge windows overlooking a pond, and the chandeliers.  We didn’t need a whole lot more to make the space feel elegant.”

To add a touch of colour, subtle hints of pink were incorporated through the wedding cake, the bouquets and the cherry blossom centrepieces that sat on every table.  “The centrepieces were tall, elegant, and not overwhelming,” Lindsay describes. “They added the perfect amount of colour to the room.”

When asked about their favourite part of the wedding day, the couple explains it was right after they became officially married. “Once we exchanged our vows and our first kiss, all of the nerves had passed,” the bride and groom recall. “Our daughter ran up to greet us with a kiss and we got to walk down the aisle as a family!”

A Romantic Pink Wedding At The Four Seasons Hotel In Toronto

Real Weddings

Darragh and Renaud first met in Montreal while Darragh was there for a weekend trip from Toronto. The future bride and groom had to go their separate ways at the end of the weekend, but couldn’t stop thinking about the instant connection they shared. “My mom still brings up that when I came home from that weekend, she had asked me if I met anyone interesting, and I had said ‘well, there was one boy…’” Darragh recalls. “Mom knew about Renaud, before she ever knew him.” One year later, Renaud moved to Toronto, but the two didn’t meet again until they were both in Munich, Germany during Oktoberfest.

A petal pink colour scheme was carried throughout the couple’s big day—from the blush bridesmaid dresses to Darragh’s bouquet, to the blooming flowers on the cake. The choice of pink peonies was very significant to the couple. “The flowers hold a very special place in our hearts,” Darragh explains. “The theme was peonies from our engagement, and we wanted to carry this flower throughout our wedding.” This choice was inspired by a bouquet of flowers Darragh’s aunt had sent the bride’s mother days before the engagement.

On the day of the wedding, the weather couldn’t have been more beautiful. “When it was time for our first dance, the curtains were opened to reveal the most beautiful deep green-blue sky,” Darragh recalls fondly. “Dancing to the slow croon of The Flamingos with this magic sky in the background, we felt as if we could float away.”

One of the most memorable moments for Darragh and Renaud was standing at the altar and holding hands as a married couple. “We were elated, squeezing each others hands and smiling so big that this was it—we were married and got to step forward in life together evermore.”

A Nature-Inspired Wedding In Winnipeg

Real Weddings

Kyle proposed to Melissa after touring a champagne vineyard on a trip to Europe. “At the end of the tour, they took us out to the vineyard where they grow the grapes,” Melissa recalls. “They left us alone to walk through the vines and take photos. As I was taking as many panoramic photos as I could, Kyle got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.” The couple were ecstatic, and decided to keep their engagement a secret from their family until they returned, reliving the excitement when they told their friends and family about what happened.

Melissa and Kyle’s wedding decor was the perfect mix of nature and glamour. “We wanted something that we could look back on and always love,” Melissa explains. “A party you can have a lot fun at but would want dress up to attend.” Deep green tones were combined with white sequin tablecloths, while gold hues and wooden accent pieces pulled it all together. A faux tree with tea lights hanging from the branches added a romantic feel to their favour table.

Melissa and Kyle ensured that every detail of their wedding was unique to who they are as a couple. The guests were given personalized champagne bottles as wedding favours and even received the soundtrack to Melissa and Kyle’s wedding. Another creative detail was the guestbook—a globe painted with the words “I want to be with you everywhere” from their wedding song, “Everywhere” by Fleetwood Mac. The bride and groom went as far as to create a logo for their wedding, which could be seen on their custom stir sticks and on one of the three ice sculptures at their reception.

On the day of their wedding, the couple took part in two wedding ceremonies. One ceremony was just for family, and the other was for all guests to attend. They did this to stay true to their Catholic upbringing while maintaining the intimate atmosphere they wanted for their special day. “We loved how we got to have the intimate feeling of a small ceremony, and still were able to share our vows with everyone,” Melissa reminisces. “To see all the people I am the closest with all in one place was unreal. It was a real butterfly moment.”

A Dreamy, Forest-Themed Wedding In Winnipeg

Real Weddings

Jynelle and David met by coincidence when two of their friends recognized each other in passing and stopped to catch up. “We were introduced, shook hands, didn’t let go and chatted by the mailbox until Jynelle’s friends dragged her away to catch a taxi,” David recalls with a laugh. “Dave called a few days later, we had our first date January 1, 2006, and have been together since,” says Jynelle.

The mailbox where the bride and groom first chatted has become an important landmark for them. “One of Dave’s friends actually took a photo of us that night by that mailbox, which we enjoy looking back on and laughing at what a significant night that turned out to be for us,” Jynelle explains. After their first look, the bride and groom actually returned to the same mailbox to recreate the image!

For their decor, Jynelle and David wanted to play off of the natural beauty of their venue, Cielo’s Garden. “We were going for a forest-themed wedding with lots of flowers, candles, lanterns and some of our own personal touches like the Turkish carpets in the ceremony, old family wedding photos and lawn games,” Jynelle explains. The ceremony even featured a chandelier of flowers that hung above the bride and groom. “It felt cozy and comfortable, surrounded by nature with all of our favourite people while we said ‘I do.’”

The bride and groom’s favourite part of the day was when they walked out of the chapel together as a married couple. “After being together for nearly 12 years and seeing all the planning surrounding the big day come together, it was such a special feeling to know that we were finally, officially married,” they explain.

For the first dance, they chose “Sea of Love” by Langhorne Slim and Jill Andrews. The dance took place in an ornate tent set up by their venue. “We loved that we could see the sky and the trees from everywhere in the tent,” the couple says. “Dancing and celebrating under the night sky was the perfect way to end the most amazing day.”

A Vintage-Inspired Wedding At One King West In Toronto

Real Weddings

Joseph proposed to Kristina on their second anniversary during a weekend golf getaway. When Kristina went to retrieve her ball from the 18th hole on the golf course, she came across a special gold ball that Joseph had planted earlier that day.“I excitedly picked up the gold ball thinking it had been placed there by the resort, and that I had won a free drink!” Kristina recalls. “When I looked at the ball, on it spelled out in black were the words, ‘Will you marry me?’ I turned around and Joseph was on his knee holding out a ring box. ”

The couple opted for a vintage theme to suit the classic decor of their venue, One King West. “Understated elegance and beauty is what we had in mind for the overall style,” the couple explains. The black and gold colour scheme matched perfectly with the glamour of the chandeliers and lanterns that decorated the space, while white and peach flower arrangements added romance to the decor.

The day was full of amazing moments. “Guests couldn’t stop talking about how our dog walked down the aisle and signed a pretend marriage license!” Kristina says.

But one of the couple’s favourite moments from the day was the quiet moment shared between the two of them. “The first look was a moment in the busy wedding day where we had an opportunity to just pause and take it all in,” Kristina says. “We were able to just enjoy each other for a brief moment and to see the day we had been planning for months become a reality.”

A Sweet Backyard Wedding In Nova Scotia

Real Weddings

Jennie met Daniel a few months after moving to Montreal to study at McGill University. On the day of their first encounter, both of them were sitting in a cafe near the school when Daniel introduced himself. “I think his intro line was something like, ‘Hi, I’m trying to come up with a name for my band. Would you mind telling me what you think of these ones?’” Jennie says with a laugh. “Pretty sure I told him I liked ‘Caverns’ best—and they initially chose that name, but quickly regretted it.”

Almost every aspect of Jennie and Daniel’s wedding had a personal touch, which made it all the more meaningful. Their wedding colours, ivory, yellow, and blue, were an homage to French Provincial colours and France, where the couple got engaged. Jennie and Daniel even got married in the same church as Jennie’s parents. “With the babies babbling, flies buzzing, and so many of our friends and family there in the intimate space, it felt like a real community event,” Jennie describes. “We felt very supported, together there with everyone.”

The cutting of the cake was a special moment for the bride and groom because it was made by one of their flower girls, five-year-old Roslyn. Originally, the couple didn’t plan on having a wedding cake. “In the days coming up to the wedding, I started feeling a little disappointed we wouldn’t have that ‘cake cutting moment,’” Jennie recalls. “Well, our flower girl arrived at the rehearsal the night before the wedding with a gingerbread cake, frosted and topped with toy bride and groom and everything. It was delicious!”

For their wedding song, the couple chose “La Vie en Rose” by Gilles Valiquette. Jennie and Daniel wanted a Quebec song because it was where Daniel grew up, and where the couple now live. “The lyrics are basically saying, I don’t need a whole lot, I just need to know that you’re coming over to see me,” the two explain. “They’re pretty sweet. It was perfect for us.”
