With a crop of outrageous talents across the country, Canadian bridal designers have made names for themselves on a world stage. Their own homegrown bridal couture is sure to set even the most fanatic of fashion plates in a tizzy. Below is a primer on some of the biggies that you might not have even realized hailed from the Great White North: Rita Vinieries of Rivini, Ines Di Santo and Sarah Houston, plus some newbies like Mike Derderian and Gianni Falcone, childhood pals from Montreal whose lavish collection Pavoni is already in demand in Abu Dhabi and Dubai just two years after launching. We’ve also included some essential pointers: style, price range and bridal boutiques where you can browse a bevy of jaw-dropping Canadian designs. We can’t promise you’ll spot your dress in Bride Wars like your friend who wore Vera Wang, but we’re willing to wager a healthy sum that you’ll find something equally spectacular.
We made 12/12/12 an extra special day for contest winners Monica Duguay and Mathieu Vienneau from Moncton, New Brunswick, who were married yesterday in Mexico at the Dreams Villamagna in Nuevo Vallarta. Engaged since 2005, the pair were the winners of our 12/12/12 wedding giveaway and eloped in a romantic sunset ceremony. The bride looks resplendent in her Casablanca one shouldered gown; the groom handsome in his destination wedding-perfect Tommy Bahama ensemble. We were on site for the couples ‘I do’s’ and can tell you we have never seen two happier people! Monica and Mathieu were simply glowing and we were thrilled to make their wedding dream come true. Thanks to Vanessa Heins of Boyfriend/Girlfriend for covering the beautiful event and to all of our contest partners. You can read Monica & Mathieu’s winning contest entry here.
Wishing the happy couple a lifetime of love and happiness! Look for more photos from Monica and Mathieu’s celebration in our Fall & Winter 2013 issue, on newsstands in July.
Think an elegant vintage wedding for 150 guests can’t be planned in 60 days? Well then you haven’t met Elizabeth and David. The two planned their dream day in just two months, spending plenty of late nights in finding the right vendors and putting all the details and DIY elements of their party together — and they did all this on top of studying for their final university exams! “We wanted a summer wedding but David was playing with the Toronto Argonauts. We didn’t wait to wait a whole year before getting married,” Elizabeth laughs. Their wedding was an elegant affair that included decor like sparkling chandeliers, vintage china place settings and a beautiful lace-motif cake reminiscent of Elizabeth’s dress. “David and I were so happy with the way everything turned out. Everything we pictured came to life,” Elizabeth says.
